Athletic support for Palestine

As underdogs, we get really happy when just about anyone takes our case and supports it. But then there are those few that do what ignorant celebrities do when they support Israel, without even knowing why, and support Palestine out of pure ignorance. Depends on the person you ask whether they'll tell you its a cheap stunt or symbolic enough to have fans start questioning alongside their idols.

What benefit is it to either side if their supporter is just iconic but cannot communicate what the problem is. And so, sadly I see Palestinian supporters cheering Mardona much the same Zionists did when Kobe Bryant happened to shake hands and take a picture with an Israeli official. When fans later approached Kobe, he admitted he was ignorant and was kind of caught up in the moment.

Brazilian football star, Ronaldo, surrounded by
a girl wearing traditional Palestinian clothes, a flag,
a map of Palestine, and wearing a Keffiyeh.
Bingo PR opportunity.
Everyone is applauding Maradona for enthusiastically cheering a bunch of kids and saying, Viva Palestina. Regarded the greatest football player of all time, the Argentinian draping the scarf of Palestine upon his shoulders is a greater image than Ronaldo doing the same during his visit to Palestine as a UN "Goodwill" mascot.

Yet Maradona had to ask what it was he was holding, where it was from, and with the millions of dollars coming his way, I bet he would just about grab anything, wrap himself in it, and call himself a supporter.

The question is, is he being educated or was it just a publicity stunt by Arabs who happen to essentially own Maradona now, wanting to make a statement?

Cameras, Gulf money, a cute set of kids. Sure why not.
